How To Find Your Fertile Window and Confirm Ovulation

You’ve probably heard the term “fertile window” in your fertility journey. This is the phrase we use to describe the time we can get pregnant each month and it consists of 6 days. To find that fertile window we need to confirm ovulation!

Do you know how to find that fertile window properly? Do you know if you are ovulating or how to confirm ovulation? No worries if not because we will talk about it right now.

I will share my simple charting method and my favorite tool to confirm ovulation so you know you are on the right track with your ttc routine.

Find Your Fertile Window and Confirm Ovulation

First, I want you to do is grab my free Simple Cycle Charting Guide. This will give you my step-by-step process for cycle charting and learning the signs and symptoms of ovulation.

Then I also want you to consider these steps in your cycle charting routine:

#1- Dont rely on an app

9 times out of 10 we are using an app to track our cycle. It’s 2024+ so it make sense that we would use technology to help us. BUT what I don’t want you to do is assume your app is correct when it’s predicting your ovulation because it’s exactly that- just a prediction. If you are relying on an app to tell you when to time intercourse for babymaking, you could be completely missing your fertile window.

You can use the app to help guide you, but make sure you are identifying your fertile window with things like cervical fluid, temperature change, and other symptoms instead.

#2- Only use ONE ovulation predictor kit ( or type of LH strips)

I often seen women using 2-3 different types of OPKs or ovulation predictors, comparing them and totally stressing themselves out. I saw this with love friend- this is not helping you. Stress is something we want to minimize as much as possible and looking at multiple strips and trying to decide if they match or if one is wrong, etc etc. Save yourself the energy and time and only use one.

Once you download the simple cycle charting guide and you start to learn what signs you are looking for when it comes to finding your fertile window and confirming ovulation, then you may not need to do the OPKs at all anymore!

#3- Use the Inito Monitor to Confirm Ovulation

If we are only picking one OPK to use then I highly highly recommend considering the Inito Monitor! What is really cool about this tool is it not only shows you when your LH is rising and helps you find your fertile window but it also tells you:

  • your estrogen levels
  • your LH levels
  • your FSH levels
  • your PdG levels ( which is a metabolite of progesterone)
  • confirms ovulation using that PdG level

So imagine wanting to confirm ovulation with more than just cervical fluid or a basal body temp. Imagine you wanted to see the numbers like they do at the doctors office. Now you can! You can do all this at home without having to go to the doctor’s office and get blood drawn.

This has been such a helpful tool for me with my clients because we can monitor the change in their cycles and hormones together month to month.

#4- Take a break from charting if you need to

I want you to really assess how cycle charting makes you feel. Yes, we need to learn to find our fertile window so we can get pregnant, but after we learn that skill we don’t HAVE TO chart. Because I know the signs and symptoms to confirm ovulation and my fertile window, I don’t actually need any strips or monitors to tell me when it’s happening.

My advice to you is assess how it makes you feel and if:

  • you enjoy the numbers and the charting then keep doing it!
  • you get way too stressed out looking at the numbers and wondering if you are doing it right, then take a break. My general rule is 3 months on and 3 months off. This gives you enough practice to learn your body a little better and then a long enough break to spot the signs yourself!

Find a rhythm that works best for you.

Also, keep in mind that if you can’t confirm ovulation and you aren’t sure you actually are ovulating- that is ok! This is a temporary problem and we can improve this issue with a few lifestyle changes.
